Was Buddha a somatic therapist?

He wasn't it in the modern sense, and certainly without glitz, Instagram, or performative somatic release exercises.
But what he taught is closer to reality than most people think.
Especially after sitting 90 hours of Vipassana meditation in 10 days, something became very clear to me:
What Siddhartha Gautama taught was radically embodied.
Observe sensation. Notice craving. Notice aversion.Train yourself to not react automatically. Again and again.
Long before we had words like “trauma,” “nervous system,” or “regulation,” he pointed to the same mechanism modern science and psychology now confirms:
Most suffering is not the event itself —it’s what happens inside and in our reaction to what we experience.
It might be tightness, heat, pressure, restlessness.
When we react the pattern strengthens. And if we cannot allow the sensations to be there and to pass, it gets stored in the body.
That's what my work has showed. Especially back in childhood, if we didn't have a compassionate, regulated witness in moments of distress, THAT'S where trauma is created.
So what he taught, is not religion. It’s nervous-system regulation.
It's about creating a deep embodiment.
And that is exactly why I created Buddha Somatics, a space where ancient wisdom meets modern somatic practice. It celebrates my understanding that what I have been doing in my work, is backed by this master teacher too.
It’s not about belief. It’s not about conversion. It’s not about spiritual performance.
It’s about learning how to stay with your body long enough for patterns to soften and for symptoms and pains to reveal their true root.
And all healing happens here, not on the surface, as modern medicine often tries to make us believe. Just getting rid of the symptoms is not enough.
If this resonates, I invite you to:
🌊 Read the full River Analogy on my blog — it explains in a digestible way how after years of practice I understand our existence and how we can live in harmony with this ancient wisdom.
